So, this week Bibsey went to her first acequia party. Oh my goodness what fun for little girls and boys in wellies. The acequia is a system of irrigation which is managed by the community. It operates according to a fairly strict timetable so that everyone has access to water during the hot summer months via channels that run through the land.
Tuesday is ‘acequia day’ over at a friend’s house. And that means acequia paddling for toddlers, followed by trampolining in nappies (while wet clothes dry), and a picnic in amongst the olive and orange trees.
Brilliant, muddy, splashy fun in the sun. The other wonderful thing about the acequia, apart from the the lovely gurgling sound, is that when it is running it helps to cool the air around it. We value cool air very highly here in Andalucía when the heat comes… and it is coming now.
