As I may have mentioned a couple of times before, summer is a long affair here in Southern Spain. Children’s activities like playgroup and baby yoga broke up for summer long ago with the schools. And now, as the heat subsides, the schools open, and things start to get back into a less soporific groove, I notice that the kids have been growing like weeds!
It must be all the sunshine. Little boys I know now have big-boy haircuts. Little girls who were still in nappies at the beginning of May are now fully potty trained. Crawlers are now toddlers. And pennies are dropping everywhere. The kids are growing like weeds!
There are so many things that Bibsey just ‘gets’ that she didn’t before the summer. Things like jumping and galloping. Please and thank you. Switching out the light and going to sleep. And Lego. Finally she ‘gets’ Lego.
We got the box out one day after a period of not playing with it and she said “let’s make a castle, mummy”. Since then we have built all sorts of houses with various different sleeping arrangements, we have recreated our favourite supermarket and we have had escaped animals and car chases down our reconstructed local high street. It’s been great and has opened up a whole new world of play for her with her dad and older cousins, giving me more precious time to do the housework loll about online.
