Now she is Five
… nearly six actually. Now that she is five she is at school from 9am until 4pm everyday. She has had her first solo playdate in the pueblo with a boy from school. She tells me that they fight “but not hitting”. OK, great. They mostly play Barbies.

Glamp Lamp
Looks gorgeous, right? Butter wouldn’t melt? Wrong. She has just handed me the biggest bogie ever to have graced this house, wearing exactly this expression. Stay alert, people. And beware 5 year olds bearing gifts.

You know you are a mummy when…

September 25, 2011 by bibsey mama 16 Comments

Whether it’s a slow dawning realisation or a jaw-clanging bombshell, from the moment they are out of the womb, you know we are all headed in the same direction: Mummydom.

This is a wind-up right?

Clothes covered in baby spew/snot/cherry tomato pips/dried yogurt etc ~ yup. No room in the handbag for makeup ~ check. What’s makeup again? ~ thing of the past.  Your child has dragged your tampons/sanitary towels out in public (ok, there is some ‘mummy room’ in the bag) and won’t relinquish them ~ regularly, yes. Lack of sleep/sleep obsession ~ yes yes yes. Two week old hair ~ guilty (I thought that I was going to have to cut it all off as it had nearly dreaded itself). You can’t remember the the last time you had a privacy-assured poo ~ nothing’s sacred, that’s a given. Next. Constant referring to yourself in the 3rd person ~ yes, Mummy is guilty of that one too.

And don’t even let me get started on the havoc and confusion that has been wreaked on areas below the belt…

Here is a recent one that really drove it home for me. You can’t help but notice that you are a mummy when:

  • You have made up your own ‘tidy up the toys’ song***… to the tune of Wind the Bobbin Up

And then of course, you already knew that you were a mummy when:

  • You knew the tune to Wind the Bobbin Up

What’s a bobbin? That is Advanced Motherhood, a course being run on a different blog (please get in touch) on the other side of campus.

  • And then of course the final insult/nail in the coffin of your former self, is that you sing this song, in an effort to instil good habits in your child, while tidying up the toys on your own. Your child is off pulling Daddy’s socks (more on socks and how they magic themselves into the wash elsewhere) and pants out of the dirty washing basket.

This little post had been on my posts-to-write list for a while and when I sat down to it I thought “this is hardly likely to be a ‘Mummy Blogging’ first”, so I did a little search… check out Mummy Mishaps‘ recent post on the subject.

It goes without saying that I would love to hear about your ‘OMG I’m a Mummy now moments’, so leave me a comment or drop a link.

***For those who are interested, the song goes a little something like this:

Tidy up the toys
Tidy up the toys
Put them all away

Put the toys to bed
Put the toys to bed
Tidy them away

Put them in the cupboard
Put them in the drawer
Put them on the shelf
Don’t leave them on the floor

Put all the toys to bed 1 2 3
See how tidy we can be
